105 Writing Prompts to Guide You in Self-Reflection and Self-Discovery

One of the hardest things to starting a blog is coming up with an endless list of ideas to write about, which is why I’ve brainstormed a list of 105 writing prompts to guide you in self-reflection and self-discovery.

  1. Why did you start blogging? Here’s why I started (and it’s my very first blog post!)
  2. Share your favourite affirmations
  3. What are you passionate about?
  4. Share your favourite recipe, why you love it, and food porn (photos of your food, that is)
  5. Reflect on an old photo and write about it. How does it make you feel? What thoughts jump to mind?
  6. Choose a quote that inspires you and explore what it means to you
  7. Record a video post. It could be something as simple as an intro to who you are in 60 seconds, through to a video post of something you’ve written earlier
  8. Share your top wellness tips
  9. Write your obituary
  10. List 99 things you love. I love this prompt. Here’s an example
  11. Where is your favourite place in the world? It could be your home, a cafe, a city or a place
  12. How do you manage stress? Share what’s worked for you and what hasn’t
  13. Write about a challenging situation, how you handled it, and what you learnt from it
  14. Interview someone – written or video (or both!)
  15. Write a post on a trending # hashtag on Twitter
  16. Who or what inspires you?
  17. What do you do for a living? Why?
  18. How does it feel to be the age you currently are?
  19. List 10 things that make you happy
  20. What is the best advice your parent/s or mentor ever gave you?
  21. How do you maintain balance in your life?
  22. What does authenticity mean to you?
  23. Share your time management tips
  24. Write a movie review
  25. Do you have a morning ritual? Write about it
  26. If you could relive an experience in your life, what would it be?
  27. Write a letter to your teenage self
  28. Are you addicted to social media? Assess yourself honestly
  29. How was your week?
  30. Reflect on how much you have changed since 5 years ago
  31. What are your top life hacks?
  32. Reflect on what you were doing this time last year
  33. When are you happiest in your skin?
  34. Share your top parenting tips

  36. Social media. Do you like it, tolerate it, or hate it. Discuss.
  37. What is your earliest childhood memory?
  38. List your top 10 favourite bloggers
  39. Write a thank you letter to someone

  42. Write a review of a book that has made a huge impact on you
  43. If you had all of the money in the world, what would you do?

  45. Grab a newspaper, magazine, or flick to a news site and blog about a topical heading
  46. What is your favourite way to spend your weekend?

  49. Make a video or voice recording of one of your best-written posts, or vice versa

  51. Choose a number and write a gratitude list
  52. Accept guest posts from like-minded bloggers in your niche

  54. Accept questions from your readers and write a Q & A post or series of posts!
  55. What was the funniest thing you saw or heard this week?
  56. Profile a member of your local community
  57. Look in the mirror and write about what / who you see
  58. Write about one of your grandparents
  59. List 20 things that make you smile
  60. Where do you see yourself in 5, 10, 20 years?
  61. Why is it important to embrace your inner child?
  62. Explore your family tree / history. Is there anything juicy?
  63. What is your favourite item in your wardrobe?
  64. Pretend you are a tourist in your own town. Head out for a road trip with your camera, take some pics, and write about it
  65. Write a restaurant review
  66. Share your top blogging tips
  67. Write about 5 things you are grateful for this week. You could even make this a monthly, quarterly or early post!
  68. What’s your favourite social media network and why? Promote your account.
  69. The top 5 things to do in the city you live
  70. What makes you laugh?
  71. Choose 3 photos of yourself across your lifetime and write a post about how you feel looking at them, where you were, what you were doing, what you were like, etc.
  72. What excites you about your future?

  92. Write about an important moment in history, either in the world or in your life

  99. How do you maintain your mental and physical health?
  100. What impact has your ‘difference’ made in your life. For me, being born with red hair made quite the impact!

  103. Champion a cause close to your heart. Write about what it means to you and why
  104. Share your lessons learned in life to date. I do this for my birthday every year on this very blog.
